The golden compass is not technically a compass, it is an
alethiometer. This is a device many have and would die for. There are
only two left in the world and Lyra Belaqua. With the bridges between worlds
wearing thin, and a prophesy that is hidden from her very carefully there are
more things afoot than meets the eye. The journey to another place is something
many would die for, and there is a high possibility that someone will.
